Framing is an art that has evolved over hundreds of years! There are hundreds of techniques and styles. You will be surprised at the different variations and will enjoy finding the one that is right for your piece.

A range of different mount styles is available from plain, to hand decorated, fabric wrapped, and gesso painted alternatives. Our mountboard is acid free barrier backed as standard. (This means that what comes into contact with the artwork is ph neutral to avoid deterioration). There are different grades of mountboard , including 100% cotton rag for museum standard on request.

We supply bevelled, plain or aged effect mirrors, which can be made to measure with a frame of your choice to suit your décor and taste. Oval and round mirrors are also available to meet your requirements.

In our shop we display a wide selection of both manufactured and hand made frames, and as well as having our own workshop on the premises, we work with many different craftsmen who design and make their own mouldings.
This enables us to give you a huge choice of finishes either in wood, paint, metal leaf, gold leaf, white gold leaf and many more. We specialise in box frames, which can be lined in either mount board or painted finishes.

Clear glass is the most frequently used by framers. It is available in a variety of thicknesses and sheet size (available in 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 6mm thickness).

For the right pieces we recommed using 'Waterwhite' glass. It's a colourless float glass with an anti-reflective coating.
It eliminates reflections and improves colour reproduction making the glass practically invisible.

Waterwhite glass is also available with UV and laminated for extra safety.

Perspex and Acrylic are useful for framing items where safety is an issue, for instance in hotels, public places or for childrens' bedrooms. Perspex is a lighter alternative to glass and is nearly unbreakable.

Perspex is available as scratch resistant acrylics, with or without UV protection.

Stretching a canvas over a wood frame is particularly important if you want your artwork to look good and last for a long time.

The first thing we do when we unroll your canvas, is to assess how best to stretch it keeping in mind the quality of the paint, it’s thickness, texture, quality of the canvas, amongst others important factors.

Stretchers are made to measure. We only use good quality wood with thickness that will be selected according to size, style and taste.

Professional Advice

We are always willing and happy to devote our time and attention in offering professional advice on mounting and framing. If you are unsure of what will be the most suitable frame for your precious item, we will provide expert guidance to suit your taste and budget. It is important to us to understand what each client is looking for, so we can meet your expectations. Whether you want simplicity or are looking for something grand and ornate there is a style and frame for everyone.

Prices vary according to size, and materials used. Due to the complex nature of framing, it is not possible to include a price list, but we would be happy to give you a quote if you bring your artwork into the Atelier.

We also give discount for quantity, if we are framing a number of items (for example for exhibition). The percentage will depend on the size of the job.

Generally, manufactured framing orders take about 3, 4 weeks to complete, and hand made frames 5 to 6 weeks. However, we can supply an express service on certain mouldings, and will always do our best to accommodate your needs. All our framing is done on site.

The framing of artwork in your workspace should project a professional image that reflects the ethos of your company. As well as framing art for office displays you may wish to give personalized gifts to your staff or clients.

We welcome everyone to come in for quote.
